DUBAI — Estate agents are beginning to use YouTube to provide ‘remote tours’ in a bid to beat the
market downturn. Dubai-based Cirrus Brokerage is using the video sharing site to provide a “walk-through” of properties listed on its website.
The move comes as the latest example of real estate companies taking innovative steps to counter falling sales in the buyers’ market. “While many may use YouTube to watch quirky and humorous video clips, we’re seeing it as an effective medium to sell homes,” said Richard Hayes, head of web services at
the company. Hayes said that the length of time that customers spent viewing the property increased by 100 per cent — with an average viewing of 10 minutes. Martin Ashkuri, Sales Director at the firm said that the property market was increasingly orientated toward buyers. “This is a buyer’s market and it is important to come up with innovative solutions to stay ahead of the competition,” he said. “The tours have really got our customers excited and the feedback so far has been very positive — they can now do a pre-viewing before the real thing, saving them and us time if it’s not what they’re after. Our overseas clients have been especially grateful.” Other companies are increasing developing innovative schemes to encourage buyers as the market becomes tougher for estate agents. Madania Real Estate announced on Wednesday that it was to begin auctioning its properties. Raymond Kuceli, chief executive officer, Madania Real Estate, said that the move would encourage transparency in the market. Customers would be able to compete for a property at an auction house and purchase it with only 20 per cent deposit. The first auction is slated to take place on May 19.
