Free Breast Cancer screenings offered in Dubai
Women are being given the chance to get checked out for breast cancer free of charge in Dubai this month. .
Free screenings at four clinics have been organised as part of breast cancer awareness month to encourage early detection among women in the UAE. Sonograms, consultations and advice are being given by appointment at Welcare Ambulatory Care Centre in Knowledge Village on Friday, at Welcare Clinic in Mirdif on October 23 and at Welcare Clinic in Qusais and at the Emirates Diagn-ostic Clinic in Satwa on October 30. Group clinic manager Dr Lisa Pinto said: “The truth about breast cancer is that early detection is the best defense against the disease, and screening therefore can help save thousands of lives. “Just by taking half an hour out of their weekend to visit one of our centres - or even their own doctor - the UAE’s women can get hold of the information they need about the disease and learn the simple techniques for self-checks, which could save lives.”
Breast cancer month - Get involved It’s free and just takes a few clicks, but is an important step in the show of support for the disease. The campaign aims to attract a minimum of 250,000 people in the month of October. On October 12, breast cancer patients are invited to attend a cancer support group at 7pm. On October 14, the clinic is hosting a presentation on ‘Alternative Cancer Treatments’ at 7pm, while on October 26 at 7pm, life coach Adriana MeBarr will give a talk on ‘The link between cancer and negative emotions’.
