More than 4,400 fines issued in 23 days for reckless driving in Dubai
.
Dubai: More than 4,400 fines were issued and 48 vehicles were seized after only 23 days of launching the campaign against aggressive driving by Dubai Police's traffic department. Traffic patrols and officers caught drivers indulging in very serious violations, which affected the safety of road users, according to Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, head of the Traffic Department. Al Zafein said that the department had set up a team to catch drivers who jump red lights, speed, drive aggressively or on the hard shoulder or change lanes in a reckless manner. Threats He added that the campaign includes traffic patrols by police officers to deter reckless drivers, especially those committing serious offences which threaten the safety and security of the roads. Al Zafein said that police were stationed, as per a plan launched by the department, on areas where crashes and violations occur more frequently. The patrols took place on Shaikh Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Dubai Ring Road, Al Khail Road and Hatta Road. Each patrol was conducted by an officer in a military uniform, aimed at sending a strong message to drivers to respect traffic rules. According to Al Zafein, there are violations that cannot be monitored by radars or cameras, such as tailgating and failure to leave a safe distance, which many young drivers commit on purpose to intimidate other road users. Drivers caught tailgating were issued tickets and warned not to repeat the offence.
