Some important local rules regarding pets
There are many pets living in UAE and there are two governmental organisations that regulate the rules and various orders about animals.
Bringing your pet into the UAE
When bringing your dog or cat for the first time into the UAE, you need to know: · They should be at least 4 months old. · The animal should be micro-chipped. The microchip number should appear on the vaccination card, health certificate and on laboratory records. · Cats and dogs have to be vaccinated against Rabies and some other diseases. Vaccinations which are administered are noted on the vaccination record by specific abbreviations.
Check yom" pet has received the following injections:
Cats: Panleukopenia (P or FPV), Calicivirus (C or FCV), Rhinotrachitics (R or FHV-I) and Rabies (R)
Dogs: Distemper (D or CDV), Parvovirus (P or CPV), Hepatitis (H or CHV), Leptospirosis (L) and Rabies (R) · After the Rabies vaccination, you have to wait 21 days before travelling to the UAE, therefore plan your trip accordingly. · Vaccination against Rabies should be
performed when the animal is at least three months old.
You need to show the following documents to the officials when arriving in the UAE:
. Original health certificate of your animal (Vaccination Record) . Health certificate issued by official department of the original country. This paper can be obtained from a veterinary clinic and certified by the official organisation in the country of origin. If you are travelling from the countries listed here and you have all the afore-mentioned documents and conditions above, then everything should run smoothly. Australia, Austria, Andorra, Ascension Island, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahrain, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, Greece, Cyprus, Denmark, Fiji, French Polynesia, Falkland Island, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jamaica, KAS, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Mauritius, Netherlands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the USA. If you are not travelling from one of the countries mentioned above, then you have to show the original certificate of blood test for Rabies (RSNT), otherwise the animal will be returned to the original country. A governmental or accredited lab should perform this test.
Your veterinarian can take the sample, send it for the test and give you the result.
Breeds which are banned in the UAE are as follows:
· Pit Bull Terrier · American Pit Bull · Japanese Tosa · American Staffordshire Terrier · Dogo Argentina · Fila Braziliers · All specified fighting dogs All pets in the Emirate ofDubai need to be micro-chipped. All the private veterinary clinics can do this simple procedure for you. When you acquire a new pet, ensure you ask your vet to microchip the animal.
Finally, all owners of pets are requested to keep their dogs on a leash (lead) on public streets and beaches and not to walk them there without their masks (muzzles). You are not allowed to take your pet inside shopping malls.
