There are many methods of problem solving. Often, the teams take a suitable standard technique of problem solving and improvise it to suit their requirements. Some standard methods are discussed below:

Edward de Bono's Six ,Thinking Hats: This method helps you to avoid deducing the problem by typically approaching it in a logical way. In this process six people whose objectives are different, participate. The objectives are providing data, introducing emotions, raising conflicts or opposing wherever necessary, encouraging optimism, fostering innovation and leading the team and process.

Michael Morgan's Reframing Matrix: In this the question is written on a paper with boxes around it.
Each box looks at the problem in a new perspective.

Edward de Bono's Concept Fan:
In this method obvious options are taken and the solutions from them are listed. The problem is written in a circle on the left side of the page. Potential solutions are depicted by drawing lines emanating from the circle towards the right of the page. The listed solutions are later evaluated and decision is made. This approach makes you consider the problem in a wider perspective.
Random Input: Random Input method is based on lateral thinking. This method is employed when you are not able to think anything different. In this method you take a random word from the dictionary and link it to your problem. There need not be a logical relation but a link is found. This helps you to expand your thinking.

Provocation: Provocation seeks you to write statements related to the problem, contradictory to what you know. Now see if a solution is possible if the things are the other way round. If yes, then find out the requisites to make the contradictory statements a reality. If it is feasible, then opt for it as a solution.
